Hours after a Sri Lankan national was tortured to death in Sialkot, Pakistan, and his body set on fire after a hundreds-strong mob attacked him over blasphemy allegations, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday vowed to punish those responsible for the heinous act.

The Sri Lankan national was tortured to death in the Punjab Town earlier on Friday. An angry mob of hundreds also set the body of foreign national on fire after lynching him over blasphemy allegations.

"The horrific vigilante attack on factory in Sialkot & the burning alive of Sri Lankan manager is a day of shame for Pakistan," the premier wrote on his official Twitter handle.

The premier revealed that arrests were being made and he himself was overseeing the investigation.

This lynching of the foreign national over the alleged blasphemy comes days after a mob in Charsadda, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, ransacked a police station and burned it down over similar allegations.

The KP police had reportedly refused to hand over a man detained over alleged blasphemy to the mob.

Several gruesome video clips shared on social media showed a mob beating the prone victim while chanting slogans against blasphemy.

Other clips showed his body set ablaze, as well as the overturned wreckage of what was said to be his car.

Many in the mob made no attempt to hide their identity and some took selfies in front of the burning corpse.

"I am extremely shocked at the horrific Sialkot incident," Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar tweeted. "No one is allowed to take law in their hands. Rest assured, individuals involved in this inhumane act will not be spared!!"

Punjab police said they would investigate "all aspects" of the incident.

The slogans chanted in the social media videos were the same used by supporters of the Tehrik-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) — an anti-blasphemy party.
