The UAE has pledged to implement direct humanitarian projects in Afghanistan worth Dhs184 million dirhams.

This pledge came during the participation of Ahmed Bin Ali Al-Sayegh, Minister of State, in the ministerial meeting to support the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, which was chaired by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.

Al Sayegh affirmed the UAE's commitment and standing by the brotherly Afghan people, as the UAE follows up on the situation in Afghanistan and continues its support for international efforts aimed at building a more flexible and sustainable future for the Afghan people.

He also stated that the UAE has always provided a helping hand to Afghanistan, and as part of a firm commitment to the people of Afghanistan.

It has provided more than Dhs6.2 billion in aid over the past years, mainly focused on providing food, health services, water and sanitation, housing, and education, with a special focus on women and children.

Since the beginning of September, more than 285 tonnes of urgent food and medical supplies have been provided through the inauguration of a humanitarian air bridge that has seen to date the flight of 12 aircraft to meet the needs of Afghan families in light of the current conditions.

Last month, the UAE evacuated more than 40,000 Afghans and foreign nationals, as the Emirates Humanitarian City is currently hosting thousands of Afghan families temporarily until they move to their final destinations.

It is worth noting that the UAE sent to Afghanistan today a plane carrying 30 tonnes of medical, food and relief aid.
