Egypt’s Abdel Fattah Al Sisi pays state visit to France

France welcomed Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi with a cavalry parade through Paris on Monday.

Both states have cultivated closer economic and military ties during Sisi's rise to power.

France and Egypt have concerns about instability across the Sahel, threats from militant groups in Egypt and the political vacuum in Libya.

President Macron said he would not condition the future sale of French arms to Egypt on any other issue because he did not want to weaken Cairo's ability to counter terrorism in the region.
