Al Majaz Waterfront puts up splendid pyrotechnic display

Al Majaz Waterfront, one of Sharjah’s tourist, family and leisure destinations, welcomed the New Year 2020 with a 10-minute long fireworks spectacle that lit up the skies over Sharjah.
The venue’s waterfront and walkways saw thousands of people assemble early to enjoy the celebrations. Residents and visitors of all age groups and nationalities gathered to watch the fireworks that were launched from 16 barges on Khalid Lagoon.
The destination provided visitors an array of services including reservations at restaurants and cafés that overlooked Khalid Lagoon, and valet parking services. The restaurants offered special New Year menus that included a variety of Arabic and international cuisines.
Al Majaz Waterfront is a popular leisure destination among UAE’s residents, and a key tourist attraction on Sharjah’s Khalid Lagoon. It hosts a variety of artistic and entertainment activities through the year, including film screenings, stage shows, and is considered one of the best organisers of the UAE’s New Year’s Eve fireworks.
An eclectic mix of local and international food and beverage outlets, including Al Fanar Restaurant & Café, Pizzaro, Sutis, TGI Friday’s, Zahr El-Laymoun, Caribou Coffee, Shakespeare and Co, Tim Hortons café, Cold Stone and Zaroob, Al Rawi Café, Amorino Gelato Café, Ushna Restaurant, Levantine, Elli Café, Fruit Gang, Molten Chocolate, Jelly Belly, and Dunkin Café, is flanked by the lagoon on one side and some the city’s most stunning architecture on the other.
Separately, the world’s eyes were on Ras Al Khaimah as it captivated people all over with a spectacular New Year’s Eve Gala that set two GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS titles. Hundreds of thousands of spectators, including international tourists, witnessed the 13-minute long fireworks that also reached billions of people through live feeds online and simultaneous live telecasts by television networks across the world.
Defining Ras Al Khaimah as the ‘Tourism Capital of the GCC,’ the emirate made history again with the New Year’s Eve Gala clinching the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS titles for the ‘Most Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Launching Fireworks Simultaneously’ and the ‘Longest Fireworks Waterfall’ in the presence of Official Adjudicators from GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS. These take the total number of GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS titles set for fireworks hosted by Ras Al Khaimah to five in just three years.
The first record was for accomplishing a captivating firework display with the use of 173 PyroDronesTM, all executing a seamlessly created firework display, simultaneously. The fireworks ushered in the New Year by creating a visual ‘2020’ in the sky followed by an elegant chandelier draped with a beautiful cascade of pyrotechnic sparks ending with the recreation of the monuments of Ras Al Khaimah. The display leveraged advanced pyrotechnics and integrated wireless technology lighting up the shores of the emirate in majestic brilliance.
The second record for the ‘Longest Fireworks Waterfall’ at 3,788.86 metres trumped the existing one set in Fukuoka, Japan, which was for a length of 3,517.23 metres. The fireworks, at least 28 cm long and 3 cm in diameter, were hung across the 3,788.86 metre length, creating one of the most amazing fireworks displays that created a spellbinding effect on the audience. It also served as the grand finale of the event.
Crowds thronged the main venue of Al Marjan Island, the flagship residential and hospitality development by Marjan, the master-developer of Ras Al Khaimah, from early in the evening as well as at viewing decks along Al Hamra. Several family activities and food stalls engaged audiences until the countdown to the New Year and the fireworks display.
For the first time, Ras Al Khaimah also hosted the New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner that was headlined by multi-Platinum singer, songwriter, and fashion icon, Najwa Karam, and celebrity singer Waleed Al Shami.
