Two people died and four others were seriously injured in a collision between two vehicles that took place on Thursday morning in the Emirate of Dubai.

Brig. Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of Traffic Department at Dubai Police said that at nearly 5:30 am, a serious collision occurred between a pickup vehicle and a truck on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.

Through the preliminary examination of the scene, it was found that the reason behind the accident was that a truck stopped in the second lane on the right side of the road because one of its tyres had exploded, Al Mazrouei explained. The hazard lights were not on to alert other motorists, he added.

As result, the pickup vehicle collided with the truck from the back, leading to death of two people on the spot, while four others sustained critical injuries. The injured persons were transferred instantly to hospital for the medical treatment, Al Mazrouei said.

He further pointed out that as soon as the operations room was alerted about the accident, the competent teams from the Traffic Department had moved to the scene to examine it and probe the accident to know the reasons that led to it. In the meantime, the patrols organized traffic movement and secured the scene until the ambulance transferred the injured persons and security teams completed their tasks, he added.
