Beauty is defined by various standards in different parts of the world, but one standard that is common is the need to be light-skinned, which translates to being “more beautiful.”

This South Sudanese model is one among many others who are trying to change the age-old narrative of being light-skinned to be considered beautiful.

Nyakim Gatwech, labelled ‘the darkest model in the world,’ is a confident model who flaunts her dark skin irrespective of what the world thinks.

She adds that it is important to hold onto your roots, no one should compromise their origin in order to fit in to the world’s beauty standards.

Gatwech sends a powerful message across to the world on the need to step up and embrace ourselves wholeheartedly.
