Young Pakistani doctor, social media influencer shoots herself dead in her home

Pakistani police are looking into a case of a 25-year-old doctor and influencer Dr Syeda Maha Shah who allegedly shot herself in a house in Defence area of Karachi. Dr Maha was immediately shifted to a hospital with serious injuries where she passed away.

Dr Seemi Jamali, executive director of the hospital, said that young influencer was in critical condition when she was brought to the hospital and died after an hour. Dr Maha had a huge following on Instagram.

According to local media reports, she shot herself after a domestic dispute with her father. She locked herself up in the washroom and took her life with a 9mm pistol. Police confiscated the weapon used in the “suicide” as evidence.

Just before committing “suicide,” she had a quarrel with her father, a police officer was quoted as saying by the media.

Dr Maha had shared her last post on social media planform Instagram on the day of her death.

Dr Maha, a duty officer at a private hospital, was unmarried and recently rented a house in the area. She originally hailed from Mirpurkhas, Sindh province.

Her close friends would be probed and mobile data would be looked into for further evidence.

Though the incident seems to be a domestic violence issue, but an FIR would be registered after her burial in Mirpurkhas, police said.
